Dream Land – Jathilan at the village.

Jathilan is a dance drama with fellow soldiers battle scenes on horseback with
a sword weapon, which prioritizes the theme of this dance battle gallant
soldier in the battlefield on horseback and armed with swords. However, more
people know them as a dance that is identical with that contain elements of
dance and trance magic.
The dance is also often referred to a bamboo horse braids who can be found in
villages in Java, specially in Yogyakarta.

When the dancers move to the music of this type of instrument such as saron
gamelan instruments, drums, and gongs. Some of the dancers was possessed
almost unaware of what they do. Their movements really frisky, jumping to the
rhythm as the music escalade and monotonous with a simple composition, but
with passion.

Jathilan known as one of the dance forms of the oldest in Java.
Jathilan dance is also a stage play that brought fifteen pairs of people who
use the same uniform. In addition to this dance, which also featured dancers
use masks. With characters that range, there gondoruwo (Satan) or barongan
(lion). They arise when the soldiers left for war in order to disturb.

No one knows when the first and defines this dance there. But certainly,
Jathilan developed in some areas such as East Java, Central Java and specially
Yogyakarta. Each region displays the version of each. About the story, they
are usually identical to showing the same play, such as Panji, Ario Penangsang
and picture the soldier's life during the Majapahit kingdom.

Tonight, I'm invited to a village's feast.
A lot of people there, a lot…

Before the dance, there was some loooooong speeches from I don't know who…
People in here like so much to make a speech...

Then, the dance started…
Colorful, very hypnotic…

I am setting just beside the musicians…
Ahhh! This music is so repetitive.
The Gamelans are playing the same three notes all along…
The feet of the dancer are covered by hundred little bells that reel off the rhythm…

Then came another kind…
Still dancers there, but also three guys making the show.
Some burlesque situations inserted in the dance.
I swear those three guys looked being really strange…
One of then even finished in trance...

After that, I met the chief of the villages' chiefs.

The chief on left. His wife and someone...
