On March 2011, a suspected tiger smuggler was arrested in Payakumbuh.

On August 2011, he was brought to court for allegedly breaking Indonesian law for keeping, transporting and trading endangered species and is subjected to five years’ imprisonment and a Rp 100 million (US$11,200) fine.

On September 2011, prosecutors recommended a very light sentence, for only 3 million Rupiah ($340) in fines and 3 years in prison. The final sentence could even lighter than the prosecutor’s recommendation!

Show your support for maximum sentence!. We are aiming 5000 supports to be handed in to Payakumbuh District Courts by third week of October, demanding maximum penalty for the tiger smuggler.

CALL FOR ACTION: Dukung pemberian hukuman maksimal bagi penadah kulit harimau. ‘LIKE’ foto ini!!

Maret 2011: seorang tersangka penadah kulit harimau dari Riau, ditangkap di Payakumbuh, Sumbar. Penadah tersebut lalu disidang di Pengadilan Negeri Payakumbuh. Ia didakwa melanggar Pasal 21 (2), Pasal 40 (2) UU No. 5/1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya dan PP No.7/1999 tentang pengawetan tumbuhan dan hewan.

Pasal tersebut mengatakan bahwa memperdagangkan, menyimpan atau memiliki kulit, tubuh atau bagian lagi dari satwa yang dilindungi atau barang yang terbuat dari tubuh satwa yang dilindungi tersebut diancam Pidana 5 tahun penjara dan denda Rp. 100 juta.

September 2011: Terdakwa hanya dituntut 3 tahun penjara dan denda Rp. 3 juta saja! Padahal barang bukti kulit harimau yang dibawanya berharga Rp 25 juta!

Jangan biarkan harimau Sumatra punah! Berikan dukunganmu untuk tegaknya keadilan bagilingkungan dan ditegakkannya hukum sesuai undang-undang yang berlaku. Dukung pemberian hukuman maksimal terhadap penadah kulit harimau di Payakumbuh dengan "memberikan jempolmu" pada foto.

So I went to Yogya....

Fortunatly, there was no bomb, the station still there, and me too.... So I decided to walk a bit in Maloboro street. At the end is a park, and there was some military parade there...

Well, at least, I can shoot something ....

Village School Disaster Information Center for Merapi's Eruption Disaster Mitigation

After last eruption of Mt Merapi, some people think it's time for them to hold a better organization in the management of the rescue.

Here is one project I ask you to considere and support. To do so, it's simple. Go to this website. There is a "I like" button. "Like" it.

There is several projects in competition. The first five will be funded ( "I like" is a vote ).

Project Description:

Based on the experience of November 2010 Merapi eruption events, the occurrence of panic and confusion in disaster showed low awareness / community preparedness in disaster response, poor inter-agency coordination in disaster mitigation, plus the absence of Local Organization Team or Special concentrate in disaster mitigation and Merapi Eruption . Therefore, we as local residents who live in KRB II wanted to direct and active role in approaching and education about disaster mitigation and emergency response through the Village School Disaster and Rescue Team established a recruiting local youths in every hamlet in KRB I, II, III in cooperation with relevant parties.

Problem you want solved:

1. Merapi eruption cycle that occurs almost Periodic once every four years a lot of impact loss to the community around the slopes of Mount Merapi.

2. We do not want to happen again november 2010 events where more people believe in things mystical / superstitious than scientific information issued BNPB resulting in the downfall of many casualties.

3. Local Communities ith evacuated by the SAR Team volunteers or who come from different regions and even abroad, because local residents feel more informed about the ins and outs of Merapi in the appeal of people from outside the area, so we as a local youth will participate actively awake and evacuating people our local environment and community with a family approach when Mount Merapi activity increases or harm.

4. Participate actively in the experience of evacuation of the last eruption of Merapi, where paths or roads are blocked by the evacuation of many trees, especially trees and bamboo Salak Pondoh the collapsed half way through an obstacle evacuation process krn evacuation vehicles can not pass by, in collaboration with residents / local youth better know the pass / alternative path that is safe and can be penetrated as a guide for SAR Team Volunteers or from outside the area.

How to cope with and the people who benefit from:

1. Cultural approaches and continuously in providing an understanding of disaster management education to be better prepared to face, before, during and after the disaster.

2. Providing the right knowledge to the public about Kegunungapian start early age through the Village School will be the Disaster Information Center and the Center for the Study of Mount Merapi People living around the slopes of Mount Merapi and the general public from various regions who want to study in the Handling of Disaster Mitigation in particular on the mountain volcano that is widely available in Indonesia.

3. Establish SAR Team / Rescue, held Merapi SAR Training facilities and infrastructure as well as complement the SAR Team, who were recruited from representative / Local Youth leaders from around the hamlets included in the KRB I, II, III, so that when needed they will be able to easily awaken his family to follow the advice of government / BNPB.

Parties who receive the benefits of this project is the community around the slopes of Mount Merapi covers 4 District: Sleman, Magelang, Klaten and Boyolali. Especially Society berbatasab Sleman directly with the peak of Merapi and lived in KRB I, II, III, namely the people who live in District 3: Turi, CTL and Cangkringan. More Specials more people who live in the village of Turi / Kalurahan Wonokerto which is the Village / Kalurahan top directly adjacent to the peak of Merapi, such as those occupied by the proposer of Kenteng, Wonokerto, Turi, Sleman, with Kalurahan Wonokerto Population in as many as 8,000 people more.

Measure of success:

1. Awareness and preparedness in communities around the slopes of Mount Merapi eruption of Merapi, or face a variety of disasters with a natural cycle of Mount Merapi.

2. Establishment of Village School as a Centre for Disaster Mitigation Information about Merapi eruption, as a medium conveys information from the Government / BNPB to Local Communities.

3. The establishment of the SAR Team Rescue of Merapi or Indomerapi Local youth, as well as next Guard in Disaster Management and Emergency Response and Guidance for Volunteers from outside the region, or SAR.

A friend of mine, Mas Nby Matahati, went to Yogyakarta for few days. Good oportunity to hang around with him...
First, we went to Merapi. But I already have so much from this...
The next days was in Yogya, visiting the old mosque Masjid Gede Kauman , then going to the sultan palace, called Tamansari, ou Water palace... and finaly the Kraton palace...

I don't know exactly the protocol ruling the life of the Sultan's palace, but there some public exhibition of traditional Javanese dance and music. And the palace if full of different places with different role in the protocol, for different member of the Sultan family... Few weeks ago, I went to another Jathilan show. It was in Turi, not that far from my house. Every important moment in a village's life is most of the time celebrated with a Jathilan.
Difficult to realy know how much it is just a show, and how much it's a ritual.
Normaly, it's a collective ritual where trance takes dancers and some people of the audience. In this trance, the demons that hang around enter the physical body of the dancer... And the Pawang (kind of man with some "mystic" power ) expulses the demon and so, frees the village from his bad influence...

This trance drive some people to have very spectacular act, like eating broken glass, walking on hot ashes, eating ball of rice filled with razor blade... Hum... Can't say if there is a trick or not...
Is there some "drugs" involved? I can't say. But I saw some strange stuff given to some of the dancer...
One thing for sure is the music that always comes with this dance... Same little 3 notes played on small gong (Bonang ) and percusions, the singing can vary but not the music. Sometimes one song can last for 30 minutes.
I can tell you that's really "trance music"...

Well, half way between folklore and real mystic, it's a real particular moment in the Javanese tradition, espacialy around the Merapi mountain, where the mystic is powerfully present...

Mas Suharto is a quiet man. Maybe a bit crazy ?

That's what his family thought. So, one day, they told him: " Come with us. We gonna make a trip by train !" They went to the train station, stepped in the train... but just before the train starts, they all left, leaving mas Suharto alone in the train, going somewhere, with no money, with nothing left than a sorrow in his heart... Since, Mas Suarto is homeless. He leaves in front of my house, find some occupations, take a walk two times a day. Mas Suharto is a quiet man, but he needs help...

Depuis le début de ma collaboration avec les habitants de Bumirejo, un groupe de volontaires s'est constitué. Ils ont été merveilleux. Courageux, toujours près. Ils même été là lorsque c'était moi qui avait besoin d'aide. Toujours. Je leur rends hommage ici.

Since the beginning of my collaboration with the people of Bumirejo, a group of volunteers was formed. They were wonderful. Courageous, always close. They were even there when it was me who needed help. Always.

I salute them here.

The full team:

Mas Supardiman. The first one who came to me to ask my help. He has been very active since the begining.

Mas Ngadimin. He joined us very soon, and the begining happened with them both.

Mas Arifin Noor. The third to join. Very concerned and active. He is the one who speaks english and communicate via facebook.

Mas Rosyid. The chief of Bumirejo. A very "silencious" man. don't speak that much. I met him for a meeting in Bumerijo. Since, he's always there. His car is a great help. Always ready to give a hand. Always ready to do...

Mas Sugeng. Ex chief of Bumirejo. But still active and respected. I stopped by his house, one day I was coming back to take pictures from the mud flood, in Dec 2010. Since, he involved himself in our action, and he is a real member of the team.

Mbak Mutingah. Mas Sugeng's wife. Since the first distribution of food, she involved herself 100% in the help.

Mbak Siti Maryam. The same. Since the first distribution, she's always there. Shopping, preparing the distribution. Very smilly. Both of them. Their help is great. Her husband also has been helping us. Unfortunately, I don't have picture of him.

Mbak Tami and Mas Subakir. All the stokage and distribution happened in their own house. A wonderful welcome all the time. Tea, coffee, and food were all the time on the table. Lovely people that helped a lot.

Mas Subakir. A very discreet man, but so kind.

It will be not honest without saluting the help and involvement of Mbak Devi, who helped me since the first day. She is the one who made the phone calls to the humanitarian associations (for no result, sadly). She is the one who managed alone with the Bumirejo people the first help from france, in January, as I was in France. She made all the interface between me and the people of Bumirejo. And the people of Bumirejo love her so much. Thank you, Mbak Devi.

And to all the people of Bumirejo; that, in a way or another, helped... They are great people...

La dernière dépense fut l'achat de fertilisant et de jeunes plants. Pour booster les plantations de "snake fruits" et fournir quelques végétaux aux habitants. Certains ont pu commencer il y a plusieurs mois, à planter des légumes. Aujourd'hui ils récoltent...

Solidaritas Bumirejo - Portraits of A Special Day

Of course, there is the mission: Help Bumirejo to find back a safe and peaceful existence.

But I could not restrain my emotion to these people, usually uneventful, simple people, suddenly thrown into a situation requiring assistance.

I feel embarrassed about their looks on me. Already that "foreigner" is treated with honor in Indonesia - how many "invitations" I've received since I'm here? A thousand? - So imagine how they look at me since I help ...

Then all these faces scroll in my head and I cannot stop the flow ....

Bien sûr, il y a la mission: Aider Bumirejo à retrouver une existence sûre et paisible.

Mais je n’ai pu refreiner mon émotion devant ces gens, habituellement sans histoire, des gens simples, soudainement projeté dans une situation nécessitant assistance.

Je me sens gêné de leurs regards sur moi. Déjà que « l’étranger » est traité avec honneur chez les indonésiens - combien « d’invitations » ai-je reçu depuis que je suis ici ? Mille ? – Alors imaginez comment ils me regardent depuis que je les aide…

Alors tous ces visages défilent dans ma tête sans que je puisse arrêter le flot….

Le lendemain, Samedi 16 Avril 2011, les rations étaient prêtes, alors la distribution fut organisée .

Chaque maison avait un représentant pour prendre livraison de la nourriture. Et finalement, cela ne faisait pas tellement… Mais malgré cela, c’était un peu la fête… ! Alors comme dans chaque fête, ça a commencé par un discours du chef Je n’ai pas compté les « Terima Kasih » (Merci beaucoup en Indonésien) Mais ils y en avait presque dans chaque phase….

Barclay Solidarité Bumirejo

Commencée il y a plusieurs mois, l’opération « Barclay Solidarité Bumirejo » entre dans sa phase finale. Ceci aura était possible, grâce au concours de plusieurs personnes, dont Sévrine France (Facebook), Claude Grandpey (LAVE), Lt Philippe Besson (PUI) et Joel Boyer (Barclay Bank). Leur commun effort abouti à une aide substantielle de la par de « Barclay Solidarité ». Transmise par les « Pompiers de l’Urgence Internationale », les habitants de Bumirejo ont reçu les fonds le vendredi 15 Avril 2011.

Les achats ont commencé directement après.

Trois grands postes ont été décidés :

Achat de nourriture. Le plus urgents.
Achat de fertilisant, afin de relancer très vite la production d « Snake Fruit », principale activité du village, et ainsi retrouver une autonomie financière.
La création d’un fond de solidarité, pour les mois à venir. Ce fond servira à palier à toutes situations particulières nécessitant une aide collective. Cette sera un prêt, que les bénéficiaires aura à charge de rembourser, ce qui permettra de palier à d’autre situations du même type. Il est également prévu que lorsque l’économie locale aura retrouvé un équilibre, ce fond soit augmenté par un système de don, interne au village. Le but final étant de disposer d’une réserve suffisante pour qu’en cas de nouveaux désastre (Mérapi, séisme) , Bumirejo puisse immédiatement faire face, sans dépendre d’aide extérieur immédiate.

La répartition des fonds est, en gros la suivante :

- Nourriture= 25%
- Fertilisant = 50%
- Kolaborasi (coopérative) = 25%

Il sera sans doute nécessaire de trouver un peu plus de financement (notamment pour la nourriture), mais cette aide est vraiment providentielle pour les villageois de Bumirejo. Et leur gratitude est vraiment très forte.

The financial breakdown is roughly as follows:

- Food = 25%
- Fertilizer = 50%
- Kolaborasi (Co-op) = 25%

It will probably be necessary to find some more funding (mainly for food), but this aid is really a boon to the villagers of Bumirejo. And appreciation is very strong.

Lancé en Décembre 2010 par les "Pompiers De l'Urgence Internationale" dans un appel à donation, ( COMMUNIQUE DE PRESSE – URGENT ), ce sont environ 1000€ de donateurs privés qui arrivent à Bumirejo.
La nourriture est le plus urgent. Une journée a aller à droite et à gauche pour trouver les meilleurs prix. Puis livrer les achats au village, constituer les portions pour chaque famille. Tout le monde, à commencer par les villageois eux-même, a participé à l'effort....

Finally, we received a first help from France.
Launched in December 2010 by the "Pompiers De l'Urgence Internationale" in an appeal for donation, (PRESS RELEASE - URGENT), that's approximately € 1,000 from private donors coming to Bumirejo.
The food is most urgent. One day going right and left to find the best prices. Then deliver the shopping to the village, setting up the portions for each family. Everyone, starting with the villagers themselves, participated in the effort ....

Bali, Bali… Everybody – me included – heard about the paradise island.
Extraordinary sceneries, places of ultimate beauty…
But I went there for another reason… A charity photo exhibition for Merapi Victims, organized by the BPFI (Bali Photographer For Indonesia )
I took the opportunity to shoot whatever came to my lens.
So, no sunset on a virgin beach, no temple out of time, nothing else than the normal life, somewhere in Depasar.

Des milliers ont perdu leurs moyens de subsistance et les cendres du volcan ont détruit l’agriculture qui leur permettait de se nourrir. Averti par un appel à l’aide afin d’aider ces populations lancé par un photographe français vivant à proximité du volcan, l’ONG « POMPIERS DE L’URGENCE INTERNATIONALE » a décidé de se mobiliser pour mobiliser toutes les ressources possibles afin de venir en aide à ces populations en danger. L'association PUI, agréée "sécurité civile" et reconnue par les Nations Unies, est déjà intervenue pour des tremblements de terre au Pakistan, en Turquie, Indonésie, Italie et récemment à Haïti. Notre appel aux dons est destiné à l’acquisition sur place de nourriture, eau potable et matériels agricoles pour permettre à la population de reprendre une activité et subvenir à leurs besoins. Strong earthquake shakes central Indonesia

A strong earthquake has hit waters off central Indonesia, sending hundreds of residents fleeing their homes, but there are no reports of injuries or damage.

The US Geological Survey says the epicentre of Tuesday's 5.8-magnitude quake was 140 kilometres from Yogyakarta, a bustling city still traumatised by a 2006 tremor that killed 5700 people.
In recent weeks, the city has been showered by ash from the nearby Mount Merapi volcano, which has killed at least 386 people since bursting back to life on October 26.

Kinahrejo - Face To Face With Death
